Botox® vs. MicroTox: What is the Difference?

Botox® is one of the most recognized treatments in aesthetics, but you may have also heard of something called “MicroTox.” While they both use the same ingredient (botulinum toxin), they’re delivered in very different ways and achieve different results. We’re proud to offer both at Freya’s Lair Medical Spa. Our medspa is known for its innovative, groundbreaking aesthetics offerings and luxurious, welcoming atmosphere.

MicroTox is growing more popular every day among our Albuquerque patients, so this is a great time to delve into it. Here’s what you should know if you’re curious about how these treatments compare.

What Is Botox?

Botox works by relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles, particularly in areas like the forehead, between the eyebrows, and around the eyes. A few precise injections are used to soften lines and create a smoother, more refreshed look.

Results typically last about three to four months, and the treatment has a long track record of safety and effectiveness, as it was first FDA-approved for cosmetic use back in 2002.

What Is MicroTox?

MicroTox also uses botulinum toxin, but in much smaller amounts, delivered more superficially into the skin rather than deep into the muscle. MicroTox is delivered through a group of tiny needles (microneedling) or through a single thin needle, whereas Botox is always delivered via a single needle injection.

Instead of primarily targeting expression lines, MicroTox improves skin quality. Patients often notice:

  • Smoother skin texture
  • Smaller pores
  • Reduced redness
  • More refined skin overall

MicroTox has many other potential uses, including smoothing crepey eyelids, tightening the chest and neck, and even reducing the appearance of scars.

What About MicroTox Longevity?

Typically, traditional Botox lasts three to four months. MicroTox results may develop more quickly but may also fade slightly sooner. Many patients opt for touch-ups every few months to maintain their results.

Which One Is Right for You?

If your main concern is lines from facial expression, Botox may be the better choice. If you’re more interested in improving skin texture, reducing pore size, or achieving a “glass skin” look, MicroTox can be a great option.

Our expert providers at Freya’s Lair Medical Spa can discuss your concerns with you and help you determine if MicroTox, Botox, or a combination of the two is the best approach to achieve the results you want.

Both treatments are quick, involve no downtime, and can be performed in our Albuquerque office, making them popular choices for busy schedules.
