Botox Cosmetics is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe forehead wrinkles, frown lines between the eyebrows and moderate to severe crow’s feet lines around the eyes in adults. Depending on the client, results are visible within 7 days, if not sooner, and can last between 2 and 6 months.

A common misconception about Botox is that you will lose the ability to express emotions after treatment and that it will “freeze” your face.
Botox is not permanent and the effects can last anywhere from 4 to 7 months. While some people may worry that the results will not be noticeable enough, the most common misconception about the outcome of Botox is that it freezes your facial expressions and prevents you from conveying your emotions.
We’ve all see the tabloid magazine that depicts Hollywood stars who look like their face has been frozen in place or they’ve been thrown through a wind tunnel, but don’t let this scare you! It’s crucial to discuss your desired outcome with your provider. At Freya’s Lair Medical Spa our goal is always to enhance your natural beauty, not change it.
You may also be concerned that if you stop getting Botox after one or more treatments your wrinkles will worsen, but this just isn’t true. If you keep up with your injections this will prevent your wrinkles from worsening and if you decide to stop they will simply return to how they were. The relaxing effects that Botox has on the muscles will gradually go away and as they regain their normal movement, the wrinkles will continue to develop.
The repeated muscle contractions from frowning and squinting create lines and wrinkles over the years. Botox works beneath the surface of your skin to target these muscles and temporarily reducing muscle activity in the injected area. After your treatment, you will begin to notice and feel visibly smoother skin and reduced frown lines.
Botox does not erase all wrinkles and cannot treat those caused by sun damage. The lines that will best respond to Botox are those that have been created by repetitive movement—such as squinting your eyes or furrowing your brow. These are referred to as dynamic wrinkles, whereas the other lines are called static wrinkles. If you have deep dynamic wrinkles these can also take multiple procedures to treat before the desired results are achieved.

Botox is a technique-sensitive treatment, so it’s incredibly important to work with a licensed, trained professional who is an expert in facial anatomy. Olga has nearly two decades of experience with Botox and other injectables and holds a degree in Clinical Psychology and Medical Aesthetics. Olga’s intent, as owner of Freya’s Lair, is to provide professional, effective and convenient personalized medical and beauty services to her clients. She has assembled an experienced and qualified team, including a physician and nurse practitioner to provide her clients with result-oriented treatments.
Treatment requires minimal downtime or recovery; it’s often called a lunchtime procedure. You’ll be able to go about your normal routine immediately after you leave our office.
Botox can also be used for therapeutic purposes. Most commonly, Botox is praised for its ability to help relieve migraine headaches. The Botox is injected into the forehead primarily to reduce pain and tension, which lessens the strain on the nervous system.
In addition, Botox can also be used to treat neck spasms, a condition called cervical dystonia that refers to repetitive spasms in the area, as well as excessive sweating, known as hyperhidrosis. For a procedure like this, Botox is injected directly into the affected skin and temporarily blocks the sweat glands that are causing the extreme perspiration. A single treatment like this can provide relief for months at a time.
In 2011 the FDA approved Botox to treat overactive bladders in people with multiple sclerosis or those living with a spinal cord injury. Overactive bladder, or urinary incontinence, can be treated by injecting Botox into the bladder to help relax the muscles and allow more urine to be stored.
One of the first uses of Botox dating back to the 1980’s was to treat crossed eyes as well as uncontrollable blinking.
As you can see, many of the ailments we’ve covered here from wrinkles to spasms and migraines, can all be attributed to muscular activity. So although Botox is most notably used in cosmetic procedures, its therapeutic benefits should not be overlooked.
It is also becoming more and more common to seek out Botox in Albuquerque as a preventive measure to target wrinkle-prone areas before they become even more visible and etched into your skin. This idea behind this is to weaken the wrinkle-causing muscles after they appear—usually between the eyes and in the forehead. For some, you may notice this as early as 20 years old or, or perhaps not see a need for this preventive treatment until your mid-30’s. Much of this will depend on genetics and, of course, stress that can cause brow-furrowing. Taking this proactive approach can help decrease your need for Botox in the future because you will begin to limit the repetitive motions that cause wrinkles.
We are very much looking forward to meet you and creating the perfect plan with you during your complimentary consultation. During this visit, you and Olga will meet privately to discuss your goals and the best way you can work together to achieve them.
Please bring any questions you have about Albuquerque Botox and this time and they will all be answered.
