Botox and Xeomin are very similar, though my guess is that you’ve heard a lot about Botox and very little about Xeomin (Zee-Oh-Min).
Xeomin is the latest option for frown lines. It has been used in Europe since 2008 and received FDA approval in winter 2011.
Like Botox, Xeomin (incobotulinumtoxinA) is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and clinically proven to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in adults.
It can also treat muscle stiffness, muscle spasms, excessive sweating, overactive bladder, or loss of bladder control. Just like Botox, Xeomin can also prevent chronic migraine headaches and improve the appearance of wrinkles on the face.
Xeomin is often described as “The Naked Botox” because of the absence of the carrier proteins that are present in Botox. The lack of protein carriers can result in fewer allergic reactions or even resistance to the neurotoxin. Also, because Xeomin is free of these additives, it does not need to be refrigerated.
The application of Botox and Xeomin both work in the treatment and removal of wrinkles by paralyzing the muscles temporarily. Best of all? There’s little to no down time with either treatment!
Any minimal common side effects that can be expected are comparable to Botox, including head ache and swollen eyes.
You should notice smoother, more wrinkle-free skin within 2 to 3 days post injection, but the full effects won’t appear for about 2 weeks. It may take as long as a month for results to peak on areas with stronger muscles, particularly in men.
Touch-ups are performed every 4 to 7 months as needed.
I would recommend Xeomin to you if you have a known protein allergy.
Here at Freya’s Lair Medical Spa, we’ve been providing the best Botox in Albuquerque for years and are pleased to offer Xeomin as an option to guests as well. If you’re unsure which treatment is right for you, you can call us to discuss each option and together we can decide which will be most beneficial for you.
All pre-treatment recommendations will be given during your free consult at Freya’s Lair Medical Spa, but it is important to remember that you can reduce and avoid bruising and bleeding by not taking aspirin, ibuprofen, or multivitamins 7 days before treatment. Instead, taking Bromelain extract tablets in the days leading up to your injections and a few days after will also help to decrease these common side effects. You’ll also received a cold pack during the treatment to help ease discomfort.
